My world is definitely black and white today, or should I say gray. We have a dense fog that just won’t lift. So I guess the time is right for Ritva’s black and white (B&W) challenge.
I enjoy black and white photography. However, the environment has to be right. Sometimes when I’m out with my camera, I know the timing is right for B&W images. Other times, I see the opportunity during the editing process.
However, this week Ritva is combining minimalism with B&W. Now that’s a challenge! I was surprised going through my archives that I had quite a few images that met those requirements. Because my back is just not liking today’s damp weather, I’ll make this a short post. Here’s some of what I found.

Thanks Ritva for this challenge. When you post your response, please link to Ritva’s original post and use the Lens-Artists tag. Last week I had so much fun seeing what you found Around the Corner. Next week Egidio will be leading the challenge. In the meantime, stay safe and be resilient.
A great series to meet the challenge, Anne. I particularly like the second image of the birds.

These are beautiful photos, I am picking as my favorites these two, the eye and the lotus. They popped up straight away for me. Lovely post Anne.

These are all wonderful, each in their own particular way. But the mountains caught my eye first.

Thanks Tish! The mountains at Lake Waterton, Alberta, were just average looking in color. Then I tried to process them in B&W. Wow, what a difference. Now, I almost routinely put landscapes into B&W just to see the result. Most of the time, color works better, but you never know.

It was definitely well worth the edit, Anne. I’m v. fond of B & W landscapes.

I’m sorry to hear your back is playing up in the damp weather but so glad you managed to put this post together 🙂 I love all your photos and they’re spot on for the theme, but some did stand out for me more than others – 1, 2, 5 and 8. That eye is so expressive, the birds landing perfectly timed and that lotus flower should be on a wall somewhere!

Thank you Sarah! I do appreciate your comment. The lotus is printed and just has to be hung. It’s been waiting for almost a year. I’ll get to it someday. My back is still preventing me from doing photography, but I can now get to the grocery store, etc. My dog is my accountability partner, demanding to be walked!

Wow, Anne. The blossom is absolutely gorgeous. What a light 👍👍👍
The calla(?) is also great, as well as the mountains. That one reminds me to one of my images from Namibia.

Thanks Andre! I think that blossom is a calla lily. The mountains is at Lake Waterton in Alberta Canada. It’s amazing that flowers look beautiful in B&W.
