It’s a sure thing. Every April Great Egrets and Blue Herons come to nearby Lincoln in Placer County to nest in a particular tree. And every year my photo buddies and I go to photograph the activity. This year was no exception.
I’m still limited by a total reach of a 300mm lens and the tree is far away. These were edited in Lightroom and Topaz Sharpener. Take a look!

We’ve started bringing chairs. Yes, comfort, plus the arm rest acts as a makeshift tripod!
What a beautiful collection and opportunity to sit and enjoy the egrets and herons nesting!

Thanks Xenia! It is a treat. One bird comes back to the nest with a twig and the other is waiting to take it. And they all cluster in this one tree.

Wonderful sights, and you’ve captured them so well. When you have found a nesting tree it must be so wonderful to go back year after year.

I would say that 300mm lens is working out perfectly for you! Wonderful shots, Anne.

Thanks Donna! Yes it is with editing in Topaz and a lot of cropping.

A beautiful gallery – that lens does a very good job it seems (and I’m a big fan of Topaz software!) I especially love the two on the bottom row with twigs in their beaks 🙂

Thanks Sarah! Most of the birds were carrying back twigs, but they were thin and hardly noticeable.

Always something special about these – and all – birds. Nesting season is upon us here, and we have hawks somewhere in the neighborhood, along with the mockingbirds, sparrows, finches, and who knows what else! Lovely photos, and you 300mm does a great job!
