It’s no wonder rocks rock our world. They are everywhere. So Donna’s challenge this week should be easy, but there are so much to choose from. I limited myself to two years and began searching. Here’s what I found in 2015 and 2016.
I found that rocks and water make wonderful effects like waterfalls and water sprays.
Locally, we have a town named Rocklin. Can you guess why? If you thought it was the sight of quarries you’re right. The site of Griffith Quarry is now a park.
Rocks are also abundant along rivers. The following pictures were taken along the South Fork of the Yuba River.
South of Sacramento in Gold Country is Sonora. We visited our friends who live there during the wildflower season.
I do have a much larger rock to show you. This was taken near the town of Bridgeport on the way to the ghost town Bodie.
I’ll close with an image taken on the shore of local Folsom Lake.
There are many more opportunities for finding rocks and mountains in Northern California.
When you respond to this challenge, please remember to link it to Donna’s original post and use the Lens-Artists tag. Last week we all learned more about ways to edit our photos in John’s “Before and After” challenge. I totally enjoyed reading all of your editing methods. Next week Ritva is challenging us so be sure to look for her post.
Until then, be happy and stay safe!
These are beautiful photos of rocks, the lighting brings out the beauty of them. You have left the surrounding area so we are able to see the scale of them. I enjoyed all of them so I am not going to pick a favorite this time

Rocks are amazingly different in color, texture, and form. The moss covered ones remind me of the Ozarks where I live. Nice collection Anne.

A lovely tour of local rocks, Anne. We drove through Rocklin countless times and never saw the quarry. Beautiful shot of the rock and wildflowers! There were years where Folsom Lake was so low there were so many rocks uncovered. Hopefully the water is sufficiently deep enough this year. Have a good week!

A beautiful gallery, Anne. I like that you took us to a quarry. And thank goodness for rocks to bring us picturesque waterscapes as you show. Your wildflowers a gorgeous, and I especially love the lighting from the photo at Folsom Lake. Peaceful is what comes to mind in all your photos. Thank you, Anne.

Living in the great plains, it’s a long drive to see magnificent rocky shores or mighty mountains. I enjoyed your tour of your local area’s rocky attractions, Anne!

I remember driving through the Great Plains with corn on one side a soy beans on the other. But I also remember South Dakota being beautiful when going through the Black Hills. Sorry to never have made it to North Dakota.

I love all these rocks! If forced to choose a favorite it would have to be “south fork yuba river 1”.

A good idea t focus on just one or two years – I should remember that when I’m spoiled for choice! I like all your rocks but that last shot is particularly dramatic 😀

One of the things I like about these challenges is how as you go through everyone else’s posts you see all things you didn’t think about. I have photos of quarrys but didn’t think of those. Great selection of rocks Anne.

Thanks Leanne! I do the same thing. When I see what others post, I think that I could have posted that too.

I understood that. It’s just that I have a hard time picking a favorite. I think what I was trying to say came out wrong.

You’re fine, Anne. Readers do tend to pick favorites. I’m good either way. I often can’t choose a favorite of my own either. 😁

Beautiful rock gallery, Anne! I do have a favourite though…among these beauties, the last one stand out to me. The light and the feeling that the hard stones really are soft! They feel almost alive.
