Looking back in our lives helps us see how far we’ve come in the present, especially in photography. It’s exciting that the LAPC team is beginning this new exercise, and Ann-Christine is starting us off with a challenge from 2019 on creativity.

Now, I don’t think of myself as a creative soul. Maybe that’s why when I looked through 2019 for a post on the subject, I couldn’t find one. I wasn’t a team member then.

There are many types of creativity. You find it in science, architecture, art and more. Teachers and parents have to be creative to reach and teach the children. I don’t think of myself as creative. I can’t create art, but I can see it in everyday circumstances and photograph it.

Here are three places where I found creativity.

Gloshoff Sculpture Ranch in Fairfield.

This ranch is an ongoing exhibition of metal sculptures and it grows each year. You know you’re near the ranch when you see neighbors displaying Mr. Gloshoff’s art in their front yard. You need to make an appointment and he doesn’t mind photographers photographing his creations. Here are a few.

I also believe creativity is in the eye of the beholder. I guess how a photographer interprets an object is creativity. Here are some objects from IKEA as I saw them.

Nature’s shadows form creative patterns that photographers can’t resist. At least I couldn’t.

And finally, one of my favorite forms of creativity is signage.

Thanks Ann-Christine for sending me through my archives in search of creativity. I totally enjoyed your responses to my reflections challenge last week. You kept me busy and posts are still trickling in. You gave me a great week and had me smiling. Please link to Ann-Christine’s post and use the Lens-Artist tag when you respond to her challenge.

We will be off next week. Wherever you are, celebrate life and capture creativity through your lens. We will be back on July 12, when, guest host, Stupidity Hole (SH) will present the challenge. I wonder what he has in store for us? In the meantime, stay safe and live in gratitude.

  1. Isn’t it interesting to look back and realize you weren’t involved in Lens-Artists challenges back then, Anne? I had only started Sunday Still in 2018. We all relied on the WordPress weekly photo challenges, then those ended within a few weeks of mine beginning. I believe L-A began shortly thereafter.

Regardless, your images of creativity are varied and fun. You make the shopping carts at IKEA look like art! Love the shadows on those chairs! And signs are always fun to capture, good ones!

    1. Thanks Terri! I don’t remember when I started the LAPC challenges. I remember excitedly waiting for 9 am to see what the challenge was. Even as a team member, I put the coming challenge out of my mind so it’s a little fresh for me on Saturday morning.

    2. Varied, well chosen and fun, Anne! Don’t say you are not creative! I really loved your shadows and signs – and all the others. I believe everyone is creative but in different ways!

      1. Thanks Ann-Christine! Yes, I’ve come to agree that we are all creative in our own way. Mine is just not artistic. But I can think of unique ways to achieve a purpose.

  2. Beautiful shots, Anne! I was at Ikea recently as well, but didn’t think of that as a photo-op 😛. So you are definitely creative even if you didn’t think of yourself as one! Love the shadows.

  3. Lovely pictures, Anne! Gloshoff’s imaginative structures are a lot of fun. There’s a lot of creativity in your other images. I especially like the shadows of the chairs on the patio and the carts at IKEA, both of which are very creative.

  4. You say you aren’t creative and then you show us those clever IKEA shots which prove just the opposite – you clearly have a creative eye to spot those patterns in the details 😀

  5. Loved the variety in your post Anne, and each of your sets shows wonderful creativity – both from the artists and the photographer who took the time to notice and capture it!! I was thinking to highlight my favorite but wasn’t able to choose any one over the others, they’re all my favorites😊

  6. Thanks, AS!
You may say you’re not creative, but your eye tells a different story. Spotting beauty in shadows, sculpture, IKEA corners, and signage—that’s exactly the kind of quiet creativity that sneaks up and delights. Loved this thoughtful take on seeing art in the everyday!

  7. I do think there is creativity in photography, obviously, you compose, figure out the light, and the picking of the subject is also a creative process. Capturing shadows, seeing details of interest in ordinary things and situations. I did like the metal stuff 😀

  8. I am echoing Ritva’s comment. I really enjoy the creativity of sculptors that are occasionally invited to place their works in a botanical garden. It’s always fun to see what unique item might have been placed in areas I’ve known for only the plant life.
