While looking through my archives for this week’s challenge by Janet of Sustainabilitea (who wants us to post images of things others may normally overlook or something you think other people would overlook), I found images that I was lucky enough not to overlook and some that presented a surprise! So I’m twisting the challenge a bit to show you some images that I’m happy to not have overlooked. I hope you don’t mind Janet.
I didn’t even notice this bee flying into this sunflower until I processed it. I guess I overlooked it completely!

When I walk, I try to look down for small creatures, but I am delighted when I find a colorfully textured log.

I do like trees. When I looked up at this tree, the sun was in the perfect position for me to catch a sunburst.

I’m not a very patient person, but I’m glad I kept my lens out the car window just a little longer just in case this cormorant took flight.

And sometimes we just get lucky. I was watching this goat when he got an itch.

I’m so glad I looked up and saw this restaurant ceiling because a few days later it burned down and all was lost. Sometimes we are meant to be where we are.

This one was overlooked by my photo buddies. I even pointed it out to one, but he didn’t take the shot. It’s all subjective, isn’t it! Can you see the ferris wheel reflection in the restaurant window?

One picture I never overlooked or missed an opportunity to take was of Kamau the Lion at the Sacramento Zoo. He recently passed away at age 16. RIP Kamau.

Thank you Janet, this was fun even though I twisted the challenge a bit. When you post on this challenge, please remember to link to Janet’s post and use the Lens-Artist tag. I totally enjoyed Dan’s Unbound challenge and all your posts and interpretations. Thanks to all our July guest hosts. Next week the team returns with Ann-Christine leading the challenge.

One of the things I liked about “overlooked” is that it can be interpreted many ways and your ways worked beautifully. I love that first shot and have had that very thing happen often. We don’t always know what we’ve overlooked until we see the photo later. The cormorant shot is cool because of the way you caught the wings down and the goat shot is hilarious. Thanks for giving us some new twists on the possible responses to the challenge.

Thank you Janet! I’m glad you enjoyed the post and the twist I gave it. The goat shot is funny. Is that why they have those long horns?? I think you’ll see a lot of different interpretations for your great challenge.

Similar to your sunflower shot has happened to most of us I’m sure, for me at least. Beautiful photos all, but the last one with the reflection is my favorite due to the fact that is often overlooked by many

Thanks Ritva! I got so excited when I saw that reflection. It’s funny how we all look for different things. I typically will keep an eye out for reflections, but then I’ll pass other things by.

All these moments you shared with such amazing photos, I think we’ve all been there at some point too: the surprise of finding something beautiful like the log, or that you captured more than you expected, it makes photographing so rewarding. Wonderful post, Anne.

Thanks Sofia! I never know what I’ll see when I look at my images after inserting the SD card! Sometimes there are surprises.

Love the glass reflection!
I thought you were pointing out the broken glass to your friend.
Never imagined that it’s a lovely colourful reflection!

An interesting take on the theme – like Janet says, there are so many ways to interpret just that one word, ‘overlooked’ 🙂 Your cormorant shot is fantastic! I was sad to read about Kamau however – he looks very handsome in your photo.

Thanks Sarah! Sometimes, when at the zoo, we could hear Kamau’s roar and I’d run over to try to catch him in mid roar. The closest I could come was to catch him in a yawn!

Thank goodness you decided to wait for birds flight! In fact, I think all of your photos share a bit of patience. The goat was funny! And to come across the log was a gift.

Thank you Donna! Part of my patience was that I wasn’t driving and my friend knew, a true bird photographer, knew it would fly off!! I love logs, they don’t move and the goat–sometimes you’ve just got to scratch.

Yes. Gotta scratch. lol

Your portrait of Kamau is my favorite, but that was a nice catch on the cormorant. My favorite, though, is the log that you processed beautifully.

I meant to say my favorite still life, though, is the log…

Thanks John! We’ve visited the zoo since Kauau passed, and I never thought I would miss/mourn a lion. His mate just roams the large enclosure. She’s a year older than Kamau, so they are not going to bring in a younger male.

So often we see things in our photos we missed – like your bee! I find I rather like going through the digital archives as I always find something I like – probably better now than when I took it as I probably was focused (hahaha) on something else…. Great series, Anne!

Fabulous set of selections, Anne! Love the cormorant in flight especially. It does take a lot of patience, plus skills to take these overlooked photos.

Oh gosh! I’m having a hard time picking a favorite. It must be the sunflower since it was a Wow! reaction for me. Although I love the reflection shot…

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed this post. I had the same reaction to the sunflower when I was processing it–a surprise visitor.

I didn’t think it twisted at all Anne – it’s exactly as Janet said, you have a wonderfully artistic sensibility and notice things that many others might not. The reflection of the ferris wheel was really great. I thought it was a broken window until I read your text! Also loved the little bee. Terrific response.

Your sunflowers really set the mood! They are so cheerful and hopeful. Your collection was a lot of fun–the lion, the flowers, the hats, the bird in flight….wonderful.
