I always learn more about my photography approach when I work on these challenges. Through Philo’s challenge, our guest host this week, I’ve learned I’m not a true minimalist type of photographer. I may be simplistic, but not in a minimal sense. For me simplistic means concentrating on one subject without a busy background.
For those of you who have been following my blog, you know I love do photograph macro/close ups of flowers. I get in close and fill a frame. One flower.

Sometimes I do leave some negative space, but it’s still a tight crop.

How more simple can you get than a lone tree providing shade for cows?

Maybe a shoreline, providing a relaxing place can be a simple image.

How about an insect gathering nectar from a flower? For me these are simple images telling one story with one strong image.

A woman was showing off the find of a beautiful shell.

A shore bird walking along with it’s shadow, makes a simple statement and does show some negative space. There’s hope for me after all!

Thank you Philo for helping us realize the simplicity in our photography. Please remember to link to his post and use the Lens-Artists tag. I’m sure he wants to see all your great posts through the week. Next week Next week, Dawn Miller of The Day After will be leading our challenge, having us look at fences.

Simply wonderful!
That lone tree against the blue sky backdrop, that shoreline and all those fluffy clouds, that amazing seashell.
Lovely examples for the simplicity 🙂

I loved your selections, Anne. Like Cee, I loved the cattails and the bird. Simplicity for sure. The suggestion of simplicity is what I loved in the tree/cow photo and the shoreline. Simplicity is an attitude in many respects, isn’t it? And awesome shell!!! Hope she/you kept it. Very nice, Anne.

Simple and macro – I cannot quite put the two together! Flower macros show so much of a world unseen on a casual glance. Altogether, a nice series – the cows are my favorite. It is interesting how these challenges open up insights as well as challenge creativity. Nice work, Anne!

Thanks -N! I think your creativity is at work all the time. You don’t just see the flower as a whole, you see the parts of the whole (in detail). I just see the flower and its water drops. The macro fills the frame with just one subject. To me that’s a simple picture. Art is truly subjective.

I agree – art is subjective, and that is why it is so fun and interesting to explore the way people see and think. Like your photo prompts – everyone has different thoughts.

Indeed, what can be simpler than that photo of a tree and a cow? I think you nailed it. Also with that wonderful photo of the bird at low tide. A lovely selection.

Lovely choices Anne. As I’ve argued in my own response I don’t think an image has to fit within the usual definitions of minimalist to count as ‘simple’ and your shots have shown that – although some of them like that lovely bird are definitely minimalist too 🙂 My favourites are that one and the tree with the cows which is such a peaceful shot to look at!

Thank you, Anne Sandler, for these amazing captures, beautifully telling us the idea and purpose of simplicity.
All images you provided, are my favourites.
The macro of one flower is captivating with its colour and details.
The two images with negative space and tight crop send us the message of elegance in simplicity.
A lone tree with cows is magnificent! Is it not sending the message of harmony with nature and the importance of finding refuge and nourishment?
It’s also evoking a sense of peaceful coexistence and interdependence!
The image of the seashore brings our minds to a calmer mood. It’s the best example of eternal horizons.
Love Nature’s nectar-gathering insects. Despite being small, these insects make a meaningful impact on our environment.
What a beauty of the shell! Its colour and design/pattern are eye-catching. Is not the shell, the whisper of the ocean?
Your last image of the bird, walking along with its shadow sure to give us the message of what exactly it means to have the freedom of ourselves!
Thanks a ton for joining and sharing these wonders.
