This is my lucky morning. I was trying to think of how to approach Brian of Bushboy’s challenge on fragments when I remembered taking my new Fujifilm XT3 camera down to Old Sacramento for some practice in May of 2020. My photo buddies and I masked up for the morning and drove down to the waterfront. I was trying all sorts of photography, like these closeups.

You can all these fragments of a train, boxes near the train depot and the gate closing in a train. I thought my new camera did well.

Could a fragment be a moment in time? Here we have some children having fun on the swings in front of the old school house in Old Sacramento enjoying their portion of play time.

Oh, I just love the candy shop and the tasty free and for purchase treats they offer. Can a candy shop be fragmented into separate bins of candy?

My final image isn’t a fragment, but an image of a train that has been moved elsewhere.

Since that day, my Fuji and I have been on all sorts of adventures. I’ve grown to love that camera, but, like life, it took some getting used to.

  1. Creative look at the challenge, Anne. A train itself IS fragments, and yet I loved that you brought us your beautiful photography with bits and pieces of the train/station in Old Sacramento. Moments/fragments in time? Children define that, don’t they. Very nice

  4. I still use my XT2 Anne. It takes a lick’in and keeps on tick’in! One of these days I’ll upgrade I suppose. Meanwhile, loved your approach to the challenge, especially the early images with fragments of the train. Terrific!

    1. The Fuji expert at the camera shop still uses her XT2 and has no intention of upgrading. I hear the XT5 is smaller/lighter and still has the same capabilities of the XT4. But the price!!

    1. Thanks Brian! That train looks like it’s in prison just waiting to get out. There’s an amazing train museum in Old Sacramento also.

  9. Those detail photos you took back in May 2020 seem perfect for trying out a new camera AND for this theme 😀 I was surprised though that you could go out with friends back then, even with masks, as we were restricted to only seeing members of our own household!

    1. Thanks Sarah! There were a lot of people going outside masked and maintaining 6 feet of distance. If it wasn’t for these outdoor outings, I would have gone crazy. We didn’t go indoors and none of us got Covid until years later when life opened up.

  11. Very interesting interpretation. I love the first set. Engineering is very beautiful if you take the time to notice it. The children on the swings is a good example. Just a moment in their day.
