I absolutely love our LAPC community. Why? Because I learn so much about my approach to photography and how I photograph. When I started looking for samples in my archives that would fit the parameters Sofia suggested, I found that I don’t do minimalism. For me, minimalism means a lot of negative space. I tend to fill the frame. I do simple. I also don’t photograph high-key images. That is unless I get my exposure wrong and I discard those!
I did find some images that might fit with negative space.
This lone pelican is surrounded by water that fills whatever space is left.

Some samples of simple but not minimal.

I think this is the closest I’ve come to a minimal image. You can imagine most of the bridge as white space. But even then there’s more going on.

Oh, I did find an image that might do as minimal.

I’ll end with two examples of simple and busy. Or my macro and landscape.

I now will try to do some high/low key with negative space. Isn’t learning fun! Got to love LAPC!!
Thank you Sofia for presenting me with this learning experience. I’ll be hosting next week, so stay tuned. Remember to link your reply to Sofia’s post. Take care everyone.

Love it. I agree l, we learn a lot about our own styles with this community. Love your selections, Anne the windows, flowers, bridge… off to think this through myself. Lol. Donna

Beautiful images Anne. This bridge caught my attention.

Thank you! That bridge is usually covered in water except during extreme drought. I think it will be visible again this year.

An interesting challenge this week; your post has me intrigued, particularly on the point of minimal vs simple. Love the pelican & rose 😃

Thanks Jez! This challenge was a challenge. How do you change your photography style and not limit yourself? More questions than answers.

It’s the magic of LAPC, isn’t it? We learn, we push ourselves outside our comfort zone. I love your photos, as always, Anne. I particularly like the simple windows one and the bridge. They tell a story or better still, they give us just enough to make up our own.

Thanks Sofia! Your challenge is having us think rather than just post pictures.

Anne, I don’t know that I captured the idea of minimalism, but your definition of negative space helps. Your pictures are lovely. I especially love the yellow house, the barn, and the flowers.

Hi Anne
We like the bridge with the shadow. But for us even this picture is not minimalist. The next one comes nearest to minimalism.
Thanks & cheers

I agree. There’s still too much going on in the bridge photo. The yellow wall is more in a minimal style.

I like minimalism and I’m looking forward to putting my own response together, but I agree it’s not for everyone. That’s why photography is such fun, we can all develop our own styles, there’s something for everyone! I do agree your yellow building fits the bill and it’s one of my favourite shots here, along with the beautiful blossom!

Thank Sarah! I’m going to try to photograph in more of a minimal style and see what happens.

Beautiful photos. The window in the wooden house is a wonderful minimal photo actually. They are great images all, though. I like the last four specially.

I remember that bridge. I liked this one because it was minimalist, had leading lines, and was monochromatic. Good job with the pelican, macro blossom, and landscape.

Thanks Tina! I actually photographed the yellow wall because of the pattern left behind by some sort of vine or bush. And I do love LAPC. Now if I can get
WP to love it too!

We all learn from each other, don’t we! That is the fun thing about these challenges – always something new. I love all your images, but especially the bridge and the rose.
