Happy New Year everyone! I’ve been looking forward to starting a new year since early on in 2024. I guess what I’m saying that 2024 wasn’t a banner year for me. I spent most of it recovering from an auto accident. But, thanks to my wonderful photo friends, I managed to get out with my camera.

It seems when I have a camera in my hands, I have energy and things have a better focus. I’m fine now, but I have learned a lot about friendship. Let’s take a look at 2024.

I do love to photograph in fog. Here’s one from our visit to Rush Ranch.

Old Sacramento and the area surrounding the Sacramento River and bridges gave me the opportunity for some street photography and interesting landscape images.

I took whatever opportunity I could to use my macro lens. Thank goodness for seasonal sunflowers and bees.

Twice a year I challenge myself and my camera/lens to see how far I can get with 300 mm max. The egret was taken in April and shorebirds in December. Cropping in helps a lot!

I also enjoy photographing lines, angles and shadows, and reflections.

I can’t end a post about favorites without flowers. These were taken locally in Sacramento.

Last year taught me a lot about resilience, looking forward and smiling. That’s my wish for all of you this year. I have enjoyed being part of this wonderful community, and I experience more of life through your photographic expressions.

Stay tuned, next week, I’m leading the challenge. Until then stay healthy and happy. Live in gratitude.

  1. A lovely collection, Anne. Love the bird shots and the image with the bees is another favourite.

Yes, keep smiling and I’m so glad you’re over 2023/24. Looking forward to 2025 and hope we can all get out in nature. A walk in nature, even in an urban environment, is one of the best medicines.

    1. I have recovered from the accident. I keep telling everyone to never stop. If you get to a red light, just keep going around the block until the light turns green. That way you won’t get rear-ended!

  3. I love how you made such a good effort to get out and about with your camera even when you were struggling because of your accident. I do find that seeing an opportunity for some interesting images often pushes me to do more than I otherwise might – walk further, climb that hill etc. I’m glad you found the same thing 🙂 And what super shots you got as a result! I think my own favourite is the bees on sunflowers image – I love how you filled the frame with yellow!

  5. Beautiful choices Anne, and good for you for weathering the storm and coming through with a smile and an amazing attitude. I loved your images, especially that incredibly frozen bee in flight and the hopping shorebirds

  6. Resilience, the ability and power to successfully fight back against any struggles in life or at least grow stronger from them. 👍

From what I heard from others, 2024 wasn’t a good year for many. Maybe knowing this helps feeling better when looking back. Who knows, time will tell.

  8. Wonderful, Anne! And the best thing is that you have recovered well. Your photography is always a treat – and this collection of your favourites is no exception. Love your nature and birds, but aslo buildings and architecture. The two stilts are my favourites!

Hoping for a healthy and wonderful new year!
