I’m still learning the ins and outs of the new Tamron lens. Each week, it becomes easier. We hadn’t been to our local Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael in a long time. It’s a favorite place to see deer and other small creatures. However, this time I didn’t see deer, but I did enjoy the trees and the river.
At the Center’s entrance there’s a small pond and hut.
Some trees were blown down during the big wind/rain storms in the Spring. I did see some poppies
I was also able to capture a sunburst through one of the trees and a woodpecker sitting on a stump.
The American River was full and flowing nicely. Two kayakers were taking advantage of the beautiful day.
That was our morning at Effie Yeaw. When we were at lunch, I was saying that I hadn’t seen a deer. The others said they saw one at the entrance as we were leaving. Oh well, another missed opportunity. I’m lucky that this wonderful nature center is close.

Thanks Suzanne! I bought Tamron’s 18 – 300mm lens for Fujifilm. Fuji doesn’t make a lens with that reach, so you need to change lenses in the field. I can do that but I’m not very comfortable with it. Also, to get a reach to 300mm, I needed to use my Nikon D7100 with a very old prime 300mm that was heavy.

Thanks Sarah! It’s just tough going from the Fuji lens to the Tamron. Things are not in the same place, etc.

I like this series a lot! The beauty of a lens like yours is that you can do “macro” and get some good close-ups of flowers, which I know you enjoy. And then you can go a bit out and see other things, too. Nice work – looking forward to more.

I hope you make it here some day. You never know what you’ll find. One time Marlene and I walked through a herd of deer and they didn’t seem to mind. I find the trees there very expressive.

Looks like you’re really getting to grips with your new lens, Anne 👏 The woodpecker shot is fantastic 😃 I was always uncomfortable changing lenses in the field & opted for a similar lens a few years ago; a Sigma 18-300mm. He’s my go to lens, although I always carry my Canon 18-55mm as he works best with Lensy 😃

Thanks Jez! I also carry my 18-55mm with me too. Just in case I need a better lens that can handle low light. Whenever I see you use Lensy, I keep meaning to take out my crystal ball.
