Each April my friends and I go to Lincoln to two trees where herons and egrets nest. This year was no different. The difference is that I haven’t posted anything but LAPC posts. So I’m playing catch UP!
These trees are in the middle of a gully in between two shopping centers. It’s really tough to capture the birds with my 300 mm max lens, but I always give it a go. Thanks to Topaz and cropping, I usually come back with a few good ones.

These birds are magnificent, and to see them build and find material for their nests is a treat.
I’ll be back with more catching up!
My Grand Ma used to call those a ‘Shy Poke’ 60 years ago in Minnesota 😉

Good photos with the limited gear Anne. I have a 300mm that I thought would be good but it’s not for birds unless you are quite close

Thanks Brian! So, you understand the problem! These birds are not that close.

I can relate, I have photographed them few times, they are for they are so beautifully captured here. I agree it is a treat to see them build a nest.

I especially like it when I can capture the hand off of a twig from the bird in the air to the bird in the nest.

You have your heronry. Once you spot one you can go back year and year, like you do. It’s the same with owls and hornbills, only not in the numbers that egrets and herons manage.

Yes, I do go back. This past April, I got smart and took a chair!

I’m glad you’re playing catch-up as I always love the photos you capture here! And I think you’re a bit harsh on yourself, these images are lovely 🙂

Thanks Sarah! I do like the way they came out. It’s just that it’s tough getting them with my gear. But, I can’t hold anything heavier. Not easy to get old!

I can’t carry a heavy camera these days either, it’s why I love my Lumix bridge 🙂

Great photos, Anne! I have used my 300mm lens to capture birds, but not as good as yours.
